Personal Description:

I began learning the piano at the age of four and immediately discovered a great passion for music. Following that, I began to learn the flute, cornet, trumpet, clarinet and to train in vocal skills. As a teenager I enjoyed playing flute in the Durham County Wind Ensemble and the Northern Junior Philharmonic Orchestra. I studied A-level music and then attended the University of Liverpool to study Music and Popular Music, with a final study in popular piano. Whilst at university, I enjoyed playing trumpet in the University Big Band and played dinner jazz piano in restaurants and bars.

Tutoring Experience:

Since university I have worked as a primary school teacher for 8 years, keen to use my musical skills with children. I have been teaching music privately for the last 6 years, after setting up my own business, **Removed By Admin**. I now work with six other fantastic teachers who have joined my team. Each teacher comes highly recommended by me, and they all share my ethos and approach to music teaching. Private lessons can take place at your home or at the teachers' home, depending on which tutor you work with.

Tutoring Approach:

My motivation for teaching is to help students develop their own musical journey, discovering which style of playing they are most interested in, and helping them to grow as a musician and develop their skills. I believe strongly in encouraging students to play pieces they have chosen themselves, and although I think it is important to study for exams, I don’t believe it is a necessity for all students. I do regularly enter pupils for Associated Board practical and theory examinations with a one hundred per cent pass rate. For those learning a more popular style, I have introduced them to the RockSchool exam board.
I have the ability to communicate effectively with a variety of ability levels and age groups. I keep a written record for all lessons given and students receive termly progress reports. This aids lesson planning and is a useful means of checking and maintaining pupil progress. Parent communication is very important to me, as I believe parents play an important role in supporting and encouraging practice outside of lessons. Payment is by PayPal, bank transfer or cheque and I will send a monthly invoice for payment.

Outside of teaching, I enjoy my own music making, such as accompanying the fabulous ‘Straybirds’ ladies singing collective and relaxing playing my instruments at home. I love cooking and reading and looking after my husband Marco and cat Lola!
