This is how 2 referees rated Esther:
I am a creative, experienced and friendly piano teacher who would like to teach at student’s homes in central and north London. Upon graduating from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland in 2015, where I studied piano performance, I quickly rose to success as a piano teacher in Glasgow, where I ran my own piano teaching business with over 20 students each week.
I continue to be an active musician, accompanying choirs, ballet classes and singers, and I enjoy passing on my wide musical knowledge and experience through teaching.
From September 2017 I will be studying a masters in Piano Accompaniment at the Royal Academy of Music and I look forward to taking on new students in London to continue teaching throughout my studies.
I have been teaching piano since 2011, and from 2015-2017, I ran a successful and busy piano teaching practice in Glasgow with over 20 students each week.
I have gained experience of teaching many different people, from a huge variety of backgrounds. My students included young children, school age learners from beginner to grade 8, adult beginners, adult amateurs, composers, casual learners and a visually impaired student. Tailored lessons have been developed for each student, through planning, experience, and creative flexibility in lessons.
Many of my students sit ABRSM and Trinity exams. I ensure that each student is properly and appropriately prepared for exams and performances. Twice a year I run a ‘Piano Concert Party’ for my students to perform to each other in a supportive environment; these events also include an interactive educational performance from me.
In 2015-2016 I took part in some online piano teacher training through the ‘Curious Piano Teachers’, which developed me into a more inspiring and creative teacher for young children.
In March-April 2015 I undertook piano teaching experience at The Glasgow Academy and Notre Dame High School, Glasgow.
As part of my degree, I took 2 modules in music teaching, obtaining A grades in each.
In addition to teaching piano, I have also taught flute, music theory, and composition.
I have a creative as well as organised approach to teaching. I introduce new techniques and topics in a logical order and I encourage my students to be creative and expressive in music making.
I believe it is important to have a thorough understanding of music theory and its practical application, and I therefore teach theory and practical music making simultaneously.
I have a deep understanding of piano technique, and having studied with an Alexander Technique teacher, I teach students to have an awareness of their posture at the piano.
I have also specifically developed innovative ways to teach improvisation, as I believe that creativity should be at the heart of music making.
As each student is different, I design each lesson according to the needs and abilities of the student and remain flexible within each lesson to allow the student to fulfill their full potential.
