Information About Emma - Truro teacher - (1 review)
This is how 2 referees rated Emma:
I am a trained teacher, Music Therapist and performer. As well as teaching piano and violin in mainstream schools I also work with children and young people with emotional, behavioural personal challenges as a Music Therapist. The person centred approach I use working as an MT informs my teaching and interactions so that I can best work with the person in front of me.
I believe music is for everyone and work hard to make it as accessible as possible.
I am also a performing folk musician.
I am a member of The Curious Piano Teachers online community, HCPC, British Association of Music Therapists and have a portable DBS.
I have taught both secondary music in schools and privately for 15 years, specialising in those pupils that require more than just taking exams. I make my teaching as inclusive as possible, utilising both music books, improvisation (making up your own music) and composition to help my students experience music and music making in the best way.
I currently teach both in schools and using my own private, specially designed music room.
It's for everyone, regardless!
I use books, improvisation and composition and often learn as much from my students as they learn from me. Recently a student has taught me "Havana' on the piano and I have shared this with others. I'll take you through exams if this motivates you (mostly ABRSM, but will also look at Rock School, early Jazz grades and Trinity if it's the right things to do) or just play endless tunes, composers and figure out how you can best express yourself.
Some people come along each week and write a song or learn how to read chords so they can play their favourites.
It's really an individual process and although I like to start with notes, rhythms and the basics, the (musical) world is our oyster.
