Personal Description:

I graduated from The Queen’s College, Oxford, in 2018, with a first-class degree in music. At Oxford, I studied a wide range of musicological topics, which inform my theory and instrumental teaching today. I was a Joan Conway performance scholar with the Faculty of Music; as such, I regularly appeared around Oxford as a recorder player and a violinist, in performances ranging from solo recitals of early music to a production of an original space-themed opera with young adults with autistic-spectrum conditions.

I studied the recorder with Annabel Knight, and with Sarah Humphrys and Gail McLeod at the Junior Department of the Royal College of Music. Shortly after joining the RCM, I achieved a high distinction in my ABRSM Performance Diploma. I was heavily involved in RCM’s early music department, winning the Freda Dinn Memorial Prize for my contribution. I was also the recipient of the John Wills Historical Studies Prize. Performance highlights include playing the Vivaldi C minor (RV 441) and C major (RV 443) concerti with orchestra, featuring as a soloist in multiple performances of J. S. Bach’s Brandenburg Concerto No. 4, and participating in masterclasses with Dan Laurin and Susanna Borsch.

I was also a violinist at the RCM, and I enjoy the variety that this has brought to my career. Highlights have included performances at Cadogan Hall and St. John’s Smith Square in London, masterclasses with Nicola Benedetti and Pieter Schoeman, orchestral playing under Vladimir Ashkenazy, and a performance with Bojan Cicic and The Instruments of Time and Truth.

Tutoring Experience:

I have been playing the recorder and violin for nearly 20 years, and teaching for almost 10 years.

I teach private students from home, and I also work in affiliation with a local school.

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact me!

Tutoring Approach:

I tailor my teaching to each individual student, aiming to maximise their progress and make learning rewarding.

I have experience entering students for exams, in which many achieve merits and distinctions, but I am also happy to adopt a more relaxed approach if you're looking to learn for fun!

Most beginners or early players start with half-hour-long lessons. Please get in touch if you'd like to discuss further.
