Information About Emily - Selby teacher

Personal Description:

I am a professional violinist and experienced music teacher, offering tuition in violin, viola, and piano. I hold a First Class Honours degree in Music from the University of York and maintain an active performing career alongside my teaching. As a highly accomplished performer, I work as a freelance violinist performing in recitals, orchestras, theatre productions, and with The Ebor Quartet.

Tutoring Experience:

I have many years of instrumental teaching experience, working with students of all ages from young children to adults. I am currently a Lead Instrumental Teacher for the North Yorkshire Music Service and also teach at a number of schools locally and in Wakefield, teaching strings and piano in small groups, individual and whole class settings. I hold enhanced DBS clearance.

I have experience working with students with additional needs and am able to tailor every lesson to suit my students’ needs.

My teaching is informed by real-world professional experience and tailored to help students develop strong technique, musical understanding, and confidence. In every setting, I strive to create a respectful, nurturing environment where all students feel seen, supported, and capable of success. Ultimately, I believe music education is about far more than technical achievement. Through music, students build confidence, resilience, and a sense of identity

I am guided by my students’ goals for their learning, whether they wish to prepare for exams, prepare orchestral excerpts, or just learn for fun!
