Personal Description:

Hello! I’m Emily, a professional violinist and experienced violin and piano teacher based in London. I love sharing my passion for music with students of all ages and levels, and I tailor my lessons to each individual’s needs — whether that’s preparing for exams, building confidence in performance, or simply learning for fun.

Alongside my teaching, I perform regularly as a soloist, chamber musician, and orchestral violinist. I have worked with ensembles such as the London Philharmonic Orchestra, Knussen Chamber Orchestra, and London Sinfonietta, and I enjoy bringing the inspiration from my performing career into my teaching.

I teach both violin and piano, as well as music theory, and I aim to make lessons enjoyable, supportive, and motivating.

Tutoring Experience:

I graduated with Distinction from the Royal Academy of Music in 2024 with a Master of Arts degree, followed by a professional diploma. I also hold a First Class Honours degree in Music from the University of Cambridge, and the Licentiate of the Royal Academy of Music (LRAM), a professional teaching qualification.

I have three years’ teaching experience in violin and piano, both privately and through HMDT Music. I teach violin at all levels (beginners through to advanced) and piano and music theory to a high standard. My students have included both children and adults, and I enjoy adapting my approach to suit each learner’s goals and personality.

As a performer, I appear regularly as a soloist, chamber musician, and orchestral violinist. I have played with the London Philharmonic Orchestra, Knussen Chamber Orchestra, Birmingham Contemporary Music Group, Riot Ensemble, and London Sinfonietta, and I have given solo recitals at venues including St James’ Piccadilly, the Oxford and Cambridge Club, and Rhyl Music Club.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to teaching is student-centred: I adapt lessons to suit the age, level, and goals of each individual. Some students come to me wishing to prepare for exams and auditions, while others simply want to enjoy learning an instrument at their own pace. I value both paths equally, and I aim to make lessons inspiring, enjoyable, and motivating.

I place a strong emphasis on building a secure technical foundation while encouraging creativity and musical expression. For younger pupils, I incorporate fun and engaging activities that develop listening skills, rhythm, and confidence. For advanced students, I draw on my experience as a professional performer to help with interpretation, performance preparation, and practice strategies.

Above all, I want my students to enjoy making music, to feel supported, and to gain the skills that allow them to play with confidence both in lessons and beyond.
