Personal Description:

Hello! I am a Soprano, originally from West Lothian, and am currently studying at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland in Glasgow.
My formal classical music training began at the Junior Conservatoire of Music at the RCS where I studied for 2 years prior to starting my undergraduate degree. At the RCS, I have had the fortune to work with leading professionals in the music industry such as mezzo-soprano Karen Cargill. My principal area of study is classical singing; my experience lies in a range of repertoire such as opera/oratorio works, German Lieder, French Melodie, English Art song and folk songs. Over the past few years, I have been lucky enough to work with several ensembles such as NYCoS, RCS Voices and Les Sirenes Female Voice Choir (winners of BBC Choir of the Year 2012), conducted by Andrew Nunn. With NYCoS I have sung in the Lammermuir Festival, Edinburgh International Festival, as well as touring with the choir to New York in 2018 to sing Berlioz’ Lelio in Carnegie Hall.
Additionally, I love music of all genres and can teach singing in Musical Theatre, Jazz and Pop styles. As for Musical Theatre, the roles I have performed include: Audrey in Little Shop of Horrors, Minnie in Hello, Dolly!, Miss Jones in How to Succeed in Business without Really Trying, Jenny Lind in Barnum. In 2014, I performed the role of Eponine in the Les Miserables medley in 'MegaMix: 85 years of Playhouse Hits' at Edinburgh Playhouse, as well as performing in 'Into the Woods' at the Edinburgh Playhouse Stage Experience the following year. In 2015, I performed as part of a small choir on stage alongside Lionel Richie at his Edinburgh Castle concert.

Tutoring Experience:

First and foremost, my approach to music teaching is entirely tailored to the needs of each individual; I am ever conscious that everyone learns in different ways, at different speeds, and I prioritise each student’s own specific goals.
What are your goals? Whether it be preparing for an exam or audition, improving technique, becoming more confident in your singing ability or simply for fun, I am here to help!
I have experienced the Scottish school system myself and am therefore more than prepared to assist students who are working towards an SQA Music Qualification. As for external music exams, I am happy to put students forward for ABRSM examinations in Singing, Musical Theatre Singing and Music Theory.

Tutoring Approach:

My teaching in approach to musicianship is inspired by the Kodaly method which I was introduced to at the Junior Conservatoire and of which I have seen the benefits ever since. I have been fortunate enough to continue studying Kodaly at the RCS and complete Go for Bronze training through NYCoS. Kodaly Inspired teaching allows learners to fully understand and engrain the ideas of pulse, rhythms and pitches before translating these to the world of notation.
