Personal Description:

I have recently completed an MSc in Performance Science and Flute Performance where I studied the psychology behind performance and musicianship. This has enabled me to assist my students during their growth into great, healthy musicians. I have learnt instruments such as flute, guitar, clarinet, piano, bass guitar, accordion, taking on new instruments to enhance my knowledge of music as a whole. Regularly performances include local lunchtime concerts, church services and collaborations with local flute groups as well as special performances for Her Majesty the Queen last year. I have also received several scholarships for Contemporary performance flute skill and achieved Grade 8 in ABRSM Theory. Next year I plan to take my ABRSM teaching diploma and continue on to PhD level.

Tutoring Experience:

Having taught since the age of 16 I have had much experience of working with varying ages and abilities. Many of my private pupils achieved beyond grade 5 within the first month to a year, assisting with their knowledge of theory so that they can progress through the grades quicker. I have worked with the Portsmouth music hub for many years and have since started working with Triborough Music Hub and BigFoot to deliver curriculum lessons and lead ensembles such as flute and recorder groups, wind bands and guitar ensembles. Over the past two years I have been a music facilitator during the NCS summer programme, working with 15-17 year olds in percussion based, community music.

Tutoring Approach:

I am keen to teach adult beginners, using my knowledge of music psychology to aid learning and undertanding of the approach necessary to teach more mature learners. Likewise, I have worked well with younger learners, coinciding with their development in terms of growth and learning.
