Personal Description:

Hi, my name is Emeline, it's great to meet you. I am a flautist with 10 years of experience in tuition and orchestral and group participation, all of which I took great enjoyment in. It is for this reason I would like to offer my services for tuition to budding flautists, drawing on my experience and passion for this special time of getting to know the instrument, and learning to grow in confidence and in love for the art of flute playing. Being a flautist has truly suited my character, as someone who works deeply with the power of breath, the elegance of fine note tuning, harmonising and with an intrigue for precision, whilst retaining the flare for everyone's own artistic take on the practice.

Tutoring Experience:

I have extensive experience in teaching throughout my childhood and adult life. I am also a keen linguist (I have a First Tutor profile in the language section too) and have previously tutored German through First Tutors over 9 months. My tutee gave me hugely positive feedback across the course, as he could readily see improvements in his language acquisition. I have spent seasons overseas where on two occasions I have led lessons with children in my care, whilst I acted as au-pair/assistant. During my school years I was very active in the arena of music and took on the privilege of leading a young people's flute ensemble and a beginners' recorder group. I have absolutely loved encouraging all of the individuals I have supported.

The role of teaching has been something I have always been passionate about, even since my youngest years I have aspired to study diligently, and to learn how to convey subjects and discoveries with others, whether it be a friend, or a client. I was greatly influenced by my mother, who ran summer schools in our home for a couple of years. I helped her keenly with these and gleaned much from her skilful approach in engaging students with exciting topics, active participation and general friendliness. In recent years I have acted as support worker to vulnerable families. Whilst this may not be viewed as a direct teaching role, the experience has given me significant skills in my capacity to empower, walk alongside, and encourage another in their own journey. I have led by example and taken foresight in planning an individual's tailored support strategy over 12 months, their individual sessions, and their own ability to develop independently. Teaching in my experience is about one's own character, motivation and imagination; it is the ability to share with ease, with a developing understanding of the client's own situation, their goals and interests. It is a beautiful balance of leading and being led.

Tutoring Approach:

Playing the flute has been for me an exercise of both practical skill, deep learning, and mindfulness wellbeing. The way of the flute is such which asks for conscious breathing, undivided attention and an expression of who one is. This, I believe, is important in our modern day lives. The act of taking up the hobby of the flute empowers our capacity to pause, breathe and release, whilst creating beautiful tones and sounds of (hopefully) enjoyable music! My tuition will involve the basic skeletal structure needed to build a core of knowledge and skill in music g, this includes: holding the flute and placing fingers correctly for ease, posture, embouchure, the theory and practice of scales and their counterparts, how to read the music (if the musical language is new to you), exercises to build technical skill/confidence/sense of rhythm, the inclusion of specific technicalities, dynamics and so on. There is no problem at all if you have never been exposed to reading and understanding music. What might make me unique is my innate ability to explain sometimes complex topics into something easily digestible, stemming from my experience and love of sharing and teaching my interests. I am completely committed to meeting you where you are at and tailoring the sessions towards your greatest advantage. I take joy in creating new colourful perspectives of approaching topics, styling this to be both fun and rewarding. I am open to feedback and aim to develop myself onwards as a teacher.
