Personal Description:

Hi I'm Elie, I'm a singer- songwriter and Jazz Flautist with a BaMus(Jazz). I've trained in the Estill vocal method with vocal coaches from 'The Voice' and world-class Jazz vocalists. I've taught folk music on flute and voice for 20+ years at many of the major folk festivals and as well as teaching I work as a songwriter for computer games and TV but most of the time I am a performer singing at folk festivals and clubs as well as events where I sing pop, folk, americana, country and jazz. I am a solo recording artist with two albums, the second of which charted on i-tunes at #7.

Tutoring Experience:

I've been teaching for over 15 years to groups and one to one. I've been a tutor on many extended workshop programmes that included teacher training for me, one to one and group lessons over a weekend or week long experience. I studied a module on inclusive music making in schools as part of my jazz degree and also have worked in schools delivering sessions to whole classes and smaller groups. I've also had private students of all ages and abilities the entire time.

Initially I taught flute as this was my main instrument until I completed my Jazz degree in 2008 and I specialise in folk and jazz. I now mostly teach voice and will help with your guitar playing and songwriting if this is something you'd like to do with your singing. We can cover many styles on voice, bring your songs in and we'll break them down and learn the skills you need to sing the song how you'd like it to sound.

Tutoring Approach:

In your first session we will discuss what you want to achieve with your music and I will tailor all the lessons to these goals. I will help you to feel at ease so you can learn and grow as a musician and singer. We will look at the musical styles and specific pieces you want to learn whilst studying the correct technique for your instrument or voice. Each session will be roughly in two halves beginning with working on the technical aspects you need to know in order to achieve the sound you want. The second half of each session will be spent learning songs, applying the necessary technique to the songs and showing you how to allow your creativity to make the music you'd like to create. Whilst I will ensure you have the proper training to enable your creativity I also will help you to express yourself, enjoy making music and hopefully experience the many beneficial effects that playing music, singing and creativity can have on your whole life.
