Personal Description:
I am a classical guitar performer and teacher based in the UK. In 2021, I completed a Master in Classical Guitar Performance course at Universidad de Alicante (Spain) and in the same year, I gained a Postgraduate Certificate in Plucked Strings Teaching (University of Chichester/ESTA).
I have extensive experience as a performer and have given concerts at a number of prestigious venues and festivals including: Kings Place, London (UK), Uppsala Internationella Gitarfestival (Sweden), and Palacio del Portalet (Spain). In 2020, I was awarded a EuroStrings Scholarship and also became a Young Artist for the International Guitar Foundation.
I have a particular interest in the works of women composers and spend time researching and performing both historical and contemporary works by women. In 2019, I gave the UK premiere of Claudia Montero's Latin Grammy award-winning guitar concerto 'Luces y Sombras'. Exploring works by underrepresented composers is something I am passionate about, and trying to diversify my repertoire is something I am always striving to do.
Tutoring Experience:
I have been teaching guitar for a number of years in various settings: operating a private practice from home, teaching in primary school, and teaching in my local music schools. I teach both adults and children from beginner to advanced level. I hold a full enhanced DBS.
Tutoring Approach:
Helping students develop of strong technical foundation that will allow them to express their musical ideas is a key element of my teaching. We must have a wide range of tools accessible to us to help convey the music as we see it in our minds and feel it in our hearts. I like making music-making and learning to be accessible and fun so I allow students a big input in their own learning and like to work co-operatively. Aside from the technical aspects and physical playing, I also like to spend time developing musicianship skills and discovering the rich history of the guitar repertoire and culture.
Whether you would like help preparing for a performance, Grade exams, or simply want to improve your playing for your own (and others'!) enjoyment, I would love to help you!
