Personal Description:

I have been singing professionally for more than 30 years, both in bands and as a cabaret artist. Indeed, I cannot recall a time when I didn’t love singing, which is why I now wish to pass on to others the benefit of my experience, and reveal to them the joy they can experience for themselves. My own singing style is fairly classical, since most of my earliest performances were in churches and choirs, although as a professional, I have worked on cruise ships, in restaurants, at hotels, holiday centres, weddings and other private functions. Although I have often been called upon to adopt other styles (pops, country, etc), my chosen genres have been songs from the musicals, old jazz standards, ballads and hits from the 50s/60s.

Tutoring Experience:

Having written and directed a number of productions and variety shows over the years, it has always been part of my job to guide less experienced members of the cast with singing techniques, such as breathing, tuning and ‘putting a song across’ (which must never be underestimated!) I have also delivered singing workshops to groups of drama students, and have tutored individuals on a 1-2-1 basis, including both young people and adults.

Tutoring Approach:

With 40 years of performance experience, as well as time spent as a tutor, I believe I can teach from the helpful perspective of one who has both knowledge of the theory of singing and real-life experience in the field. With a little guidance based on their skills and vocal abilities, tutees will be given freedom to choose the type of songs they wish to work on. Songs will be taught by use of backing tracks, so will not require a student to read or follow written music. My motivation for teaching is to help pupils recognise their strengths and develop new skills, gain in confidence, feel uplifted and, perhaps most importantly, have fun!
So if you've always wanted to sing but don't know quite how or where to start, or if you've always enjoyed singing and just want to develop your style and technique, I might just be someone who can help.
**Please note that lessons will be taught in 45 minute sessions at a cost of £18, and lessons for Under-16s are usually taught in 30 minute slots, charged at £13, as I believe this to be a good duration for maximising attention and concentration for learning.
