Personal Description:

FIRST LESSON FREE.

Hello, thanks for taking a look at my profile!

I am a professional music teacher based in Reading, having taught guitar for 10 years privately and in music schools. Since graduating from the University of Southampton with a degree in music I have also been busy playing up and down the country and throughout europe in function and original bands.

I teach people of all ages and abilities, so whether you are looking for a teacher for yourself or for your child, whether you have never picked up a musical instrument before or are already an accomplished player, looking to explore new avenues, please do not hesitate to get in touch!

I am happy to travel to you or teach from my home in Lower Earley and I also teach online.

Please get in touch if you have any questions or would like to arrange a free trial lesson.

Tutoring Experience:

I have been teaching for over 10 years, having started whilst taking my degree in music. During that time I have taught for several music schools, primary schools and privately. I teach Rockschool Grades for electric guitar, RGT for acoustic and Trinity for classical guitar. I am comfortable teaching all abilities ranging from begginers to more advanced pupils looking to improve specific areas such as composition, improvising and theory.

I also have experience transcribing music for publication and often use these skills to design lesson plans using music software.

Tutoring Approach:

I always aim to tailor lessons around the needs of the student and what it is they want out of music. For a begginer that might mean teaching them songs by bands that they enjoy in a simplified format and avoid getting bogged down by unnecessary theory or scale practice (though a certain amount of these elements are useful). Whereas a more advanced player looking for specific direction might want to study compositional aspects of music they enjoy, or learn to improvise in a certain style. I have an extensive collection of lesson materials that I have developed over the years as a teacher and will often edit or design new lesson plans to fit a students needs. Learning an instrument can at times feel like a difficult process, so it is important to streamline the process so that the student can enjoy playing the music they love.
