I am an independent composer and cellist with training from Eastman School of Music and a degree minor in Music Composition from the University of Rochester in Rochester, NY, USA. My work includes a contemporary classical album, THEY WILL BE FREE (2017), and a book of experimental performance pieces called 'do not perform this,' which won the Great Indian Poetry Collective's 2017 Editor's Choice Award and will be published later in 2019. My work has been performed/played at the Eastman School of Music (2015, 2016), The Art of Planetary Science exhibition at the University of Arizona (2018), and the 49th AAS Division of Planetary Science meeting in Provo, Utah (2017).
My compositions tend to reimagine Impressionist and Romantic techniques with non-Western harmony and rhythm, while often incorporating spoken word, electro-acoustics, and social commentary. As a planetary scientist and writer I also experiment with the relationships between text, space, and sound in my electro-acoustics works.

N.B. through the University of Rochester I have completed the equivalent of the B.A. in Music Composition with accreditation of a music minor. I am happy to supply my US university transcript by email.
My approach is holistic, with a focus is on developing strong technique, ear training, and understanding of music theory and history. Overall, however, I bring a young perspective on new cello techniques and modern composition.
For cello, I stress traditional classical training with modern adjustments to promote spatial awareness and prevent injury. I build from a core of posture and pitch development but also work on musicality early to keep students engaged.
For composition, I have experience with both traditional (e.g. sheet music notation, both by hand and with software, for standard classical instruments and ensembles) and contemporary/experimental methods (specialised software like Logic and Audacity, non-Western instruments and techniques, electro-acoustics, performance art). I aim to cultivate a student's sense of style and creativity while developing core skills. Skype tuition is available for composition only, after a few in-person lessons.
