Personal Description:

I have been teaching the piano since finishing my music degree in 2008. I am a peripatetic piano teacher in secondary, junior and primary schools during school hours and offer private tuition during other times.

I help out as a rehearsal pianist with local theatre and ballet groups and arrange music by request. I enjoy composing and can offer help in this area.

Tutoring Experience:

I teach across a broad age and ability. My pupils have an extremely high pass rate for both practical exams and grade five theory with ABRSM.

Outside of exam repertoire I like to find out what my pupils listen to and want to achieve and I try and consider this as much as possible. My aim is for every music lesson to be enjoyable, with the end goal always for my pupil to reach their full potential. Every pupil is unique and I tailor the lessons to each pupil's individual strengths or weaknesses. It is proving a sound plan as most of my pupils have stayed with me for a number of years and steadily progressed to a good level.

Tutoring Approach:

My teaching pedagogy is to bring as many aspects of piano and music theory to the lesson as possible. I encourage listening to recitals and reading a score as well as mental play.
My lessons are adapted to suit my pupils needs and learning pace as well as learning style. I am a relaxed teacher but I do expect my pupils to follow a practise routine during the week as set out during a lesson. I normally work on exam pieces and one further ongoing piece of music which I choose with the pupil that may include new material that may serve the purpose of stretching the pupil, or more importantly be just enjoyable to play.

For single parents we can discuss fees as I offer a slightly reduced rate.
