Personal Description:
I am a PhD student in geoscience at Keele University, but I have spent nearly 20 years as a professional singer and musician, most notably as part of the English Choral Tradition.
As a countertenor (male alto), I have sung with the Choir of St. George's Chapel Windsor Castle, the Choir of Hampton Court Palace, Derby Cathedral Choir, Royal Holloway Chapel Choir, Truro Cathedral Choir, and Grimsby Minster Choir. I am an alumnus of the Genesis Sixteen Choral Training Programme, Voces8 Scholarship Programme, and the Royal School of Church Music's Millennium Youth Choir.
I achieved my Grade 8 Singing with Distinction in 2014, and the RSCM's Gold Award with Honours in the same year.
Tutoring Experience:
I have experience teaching singing students from beginner to intermedia**Contact Detail Removed**vel, and would also welcome more experienced adult singing students. I have experience working with professionals while leading workshops and directing choirs. I have 8 years experience as Musical Director for Stagecoach Theatre Arts, and have played the piano for many shows, such as Matilda & Beauty and the Beast.
I have taught piano pupils up to Grade 5 standard, and I am especially keen on reinforcing aural musicianship skills which are often overlooked.
I am also available for Music Theory Tuition, up to and including Grade 8.
Tutoring Approach:
Learning music should be fun and fulfilling! I am happy for students to play/sing a mix of pieces from Grade syllabi and their own choice; it is important not to feel restricted to simply learning pieces in order to pass the exams.
I can expose students to a wide range of musical styles and experiences through my own work as a performer, and I aim to reflect my diverse experiences in my tuition, for the benefit of my students.
