Personal Description:

I am a teacher who is commited to my own professional development for the benefit of my students. I have recently completed an MA in Private Practice Education, and have conducted numerous research projects with my own students to further the teaching and learning process, most recently a study of how students practice, and how this can be optimised.
I love teaching, and am a commited and enthusiastic teacher. I have a proven track record in submitting students for examinations with a 100% pass rate in graded music exams, GCSE and A-level performance modules, and have privately coached students working for University level performance examinations. My students have entered local and national competitions and several have been successful at auditioning for University places to read Music.

I am also an active pianist and accompanist and believe it is important to set an active musical example to my students.
I am also the local secretary for EPTA South Wales, and as such help to arrange training events for pupils and teachers in South Wales, as well as performance opportunities locally.

Tutoring Experience:

I have been a private tutor for over 10 years and have worked with students of all ages (including complete beginners at 70+), backgrounds and abilities, including those with learning difficulties. I have prepared students for numerous graded examinations, competitions, festivals, auditions and summer schools.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe that music making should be fun, and that a student should learn to be an enquiring student. Every aspect of musical study is analysed so that students learn to be efficient in their working habits, and confident in their skills. Music is for sharing, and as a result, students are encouraged (but not forced) to perform in a range of formal and informal events. Music is for everyone. I teach children and adults of all backgrounds. I encourage students to play music that they enjoy, and treat music of all styles and standards as an individual learning experience.
