Personal Description:

I have taught Brass,(all instruments) singing and keyboard for 40yrs. Many of my pupils and parents still keep in touch and a high percentage have gone on to become professional musicians. I have a AMusM from Nottingham University, a PGAS from Guildhall and a B.A from Huddersfield University, as well as the normal PGEC. I also have full disclosure clearance documentation as required by all teachers. I also lectured in composition for a number of years and have conducted a variety of ensembles and musicals.

Tutoring Experience:

30yrs as a lecturer in a thriving performing art department. 40yrs private tuition.

Tutoring Approach:

I like to get the parents involved with the lesson and use some of the latest music tutors. I also believe in a very careful structured lesson and practice approach hence the parental involvement. I am happy to tutor any age range or standard from beginner to advance. I had a thriving practice in Cheshire with a waiting list and would like to develop a similar approach in the North-East.
Typical Lesson structure for singing
Terms are lessons payable a month in advance and any cancellation of appointment would be payable unless 24 hours notice is given. The format for I hours lesson is as follows.
3-5 mins Breathing exercises and relaxation.
3-5 mins Vocal warm up exercises.
10 mins Diction and voice production.
15 mins One Classical song
15 mins One song from a musical
15 mins One song of your choice.

I have been very successful in the past with many students and I am always happy to make the lesson and the music fun and enjoyable. I will expect you to practice at home and will if necessary prepare you a tape or cd to use to help with your practice. Please do not feel intimidated by this detailed reply. I want you to understand that while I am happy to teach across a whole range of abilities and standards it will always be in a detailed, professional and encouraging way. Music is meant to be great fun but does require hard work and commitment. Regardless or not it you decide you wish to have a trial lesson I wish you great success with you're learning and music. It is one of the most rewarding of all activities. Previous Associated Board entry grade six piano pupil achieved 143 marks out of 150 ASBRSM
