I am a musician and instrumental teacher who has recently moved to the Birmingham area. Since graduating in BA Music at University of Southampton three years ago, I have been performing in various bands and ensembles across the south of the UK, and more recently toured Europe in France, Belguim, Netherlands, Luxembourg and Switzerland with my afrobeat band, The Sea Slugs.

My desire to teach comes from discovering the excitement of performance and different musical styles, as well as the exceptional teaching that I was lucky enough to receive; something which I endeavour to replicate for those I tutor myself. Ultimately these experiences led me to study music at University and led me to where I am today.

Tutoring Experience:

As a teacher I have directed ensembles for Southampton Music Service, taught adults with learning disabilities and provided bass guitar lessons at a Pupil Referall Unit with SoCo Music Project, as well as being a private tutor teaching bass guitar, electric/acousitc guitar and ukulele. Furthermore I have co-run Professional Afrobeat Workshops to primary and secondary schools across Hampshire. I am currently working with the Music Service in Birmingham.

Here is a testimonial from one of my private bass guitar students Azaria Coupe:

'David is a fantastic bass teacher, and despite my not having played before, he makes me feel comfortable with the instrument and offers encouragement at every stage. He explains techniques in a manner that makes them understandable to the non-musician, and both his patience and enthusiasm are outstanding. He balances the time spent on pieces with that on technical exercises very well. I would highly recommend Mr to anyone wishing to learn bass.'

Tutoring Approach:

I am flexible in my teaching and I can cater for all levels of playing; whether you are looking to pick up the instrument as a complete beginner or further your skills as a more accomplished player. As well as ability level I will look to focus on the desires of each student, whilst also introducing new styles of music and techniques to further their playing. Overall the aim for lessons to be enjoyable and challenging.

Styles covered:
Funk, Rock, Metal, Jazz Fusion, Blues, Reggae, Afrobeat, Pop, Soul, Motown
