Information About Dave - Warminster teacher
This is how 2 referees rated Dave:
Many years experience playing bass guitar in rock, blues, jazz, folk, funk, experimental, African (m'balax etc) calypso/soca and big band settings.
I have taught on a one-to-one, workshop and class basis. I do not play double-bass, nor do I try to teach any instrument I don't really play (unlike some).
I specialise in laying the foundation for a solid and fluent technique together with an understanding of musical materials and how it all works.
In any style, some basic principles will always apply such as ensemble playing and the importance of avoiding unnecessary stresses and strains - physical and mental!
We work on posture and relaxation, right-hand technique, left-hand technique (or the other way round if you're left-handed … ) and co-ordination of the two, evenness of tone and time, groove, soloing skills and bassline construction. Fingers, slap or pick, as needed.
Each student is continuously assessed for difficulties and strengths, and lessons are tailored to each individual, not just as far as their needs, but also working with their band or repertoire in mind so that the learning can immediately be put to use in a real musical context.
Targeted practice and clear visualisation of the goals are the key to making consistent progress.
