Personal Description:

I am an experienced classical pianist and clarinettist and have a Bachelor of Music degree from Goldsmith’s College. I am an enthusiastic pianist and have played variously as a soloist and in chamber ensembles. Also, as a keen clarinettist I have played clarinet, alto clarinet and bass clarinet in small ensembles, wind bands and orchestras for over twenty years. I have been active in many of these ensembles which have been involved in community and educational projects with schools and local communities.

Tutoring Experience:

For the last eleven years I have successfully taught piano part-time whilst studying for my degree and then while balancing full-time work.

Early in 2015, after leaving full-time employment at a well-known music retailer where I gained extensive knowledge of music repertoire of all genres, I have begun to focus on solely teaching. I am now committed to teaching piano and clarinet on a full-time basis and currently teach clarinet in a local school one day a week.

I am able to prepare students for their practical and theory exams (including Trinity and ABRSM), where my students have achieved a 100% success rate to date, and the performance aspects of GCSEs and A-Levels.

Tutoring Approach:

As an experienced instrumental teacher my goal is to instil a sense of music appreciation and achievement while at the same time teaching students about the practical and theoretical aspects of music and appreciation of their own budding musicianship.

My students’ needs are always the most important thing to me in all my classes and are completely tailored to what you want to achieve; whether that is simply for enjoyment and leisure, or working towards exams and auditions.

I have a lot of experience and enjoy working with complete beginners, and really support my students through the crucial first steps offering constant guidance and support. I approach lessons with the understanding that each student will have a different way of learning and will have different needs along the way to achieving their goals. Importantly though, I believe learning an instrument should be an enjoyable experience!

Please contact me if you have any questions or queries, I'm happy to answer if I can!
