Personal Description:

Hey guys,

My name's Dan and my love affair with music began aged 11 when I started playing the drums. At 18, I developed a keen interest in the piano as well. I have played in many recording sessions for bands, students' exams and personal projects. I have gigged at venues across the country, including The Cavern Club in Liverpool, London's Café de Paris and the O2 Academy. In addition to these, I have also performed extensively in a gospel band, a brass band, function bands and pit bands in theatres, in shows such as Annie, School of Rock and Oklahoma.

As an A-level student my passion began to move towards sound work and I was privileged to be accepted to study a BSc in Audio Engineering at SAE Institute, London. Here I was lucky enough to get the opportunity to work with top-end equipment and since studying at SAE, I have worked on various projects ranging from recording, mixing and mastering music to working in post-production (foley, ADR, effects…) and mixing in 5.1.

In 2016, I built my own a small, private studio for recording and teaching.

Tutoring Experience:

I first started teaching when I was 18, spending three years teaching drums as part of Herts Music Service in Primary, Secondary and Special Needs schools, before starting university. For the last 5+ years, I have been teaching drums and piano in a private school in Bedfordshire and also Home Tutoring.

Weekdays, I currently travel to your home. On Saturdays, I teach out of the studio.

I have a 100% exam pass rate, with the majority of my students so far achieving 'Distinctions' (the highest possible result).

Tutoring Approach:

I believe that the best way to help a student make progress is to make sure they are enjoying what they are learning. I do my best to ensure my lessons are varied, fun and relaxed.

I teach all my students to read music, as well as improvisation, ear training and general musicianship, through the use of a tutor book, as well as games and exercises with lots of encouragement and praise.

I am experienced at teaching for exams but am equally happy to support students who wish to play purely for pleasure.

I encourage my students to practise regularly and put in a good amount of time and effort outside of lessons.
