Personal Description:
I am a professional musician ONLINE and SOCIALLY DISTANCED LESSONS in person in Chessington (South West London). I play 5 String, 4 String, fretted and fretless bass and double bass as well as electric, acoustic and classical guitar.
I play for theatre shows in the West End, on UK Tours and Internationally. Additionally I work with a number of artists and several pop, rock and soul function bands.
I hold an up to date Enhanced DBS (CRB) check and Public Liability Insurance.
Tutoring Experience:
I have been teaching a large number of students guitar and bass for over ten years and still keep in touch with past students offering them advice and watching them progress.
I teach both in Chessington, South West London as well as via Skype and Zoom. I have been playing guitar for 15 years and teach bass guitar, electric guitar, acoustic guitar and music theory.
Tutoring Approach:
I like to teach in a relaxed environment as after all, music should be fun! I tailor my lessons to each student using the music they enjoy and aimed at their individual aspirations.
- FREE FIRST TASTER SESSION
- Progressing through the grades
- Learning about the industry
- GCSE and A Level pieces
- Other applied music skills
- Or just for fun!
I believe there is a lot more to learning an instrument than going through the grades. My job is to inspire my students to want to go home to practice, and enjoy playing, their chosen instrument. My aim is to, alongside the grades teach a student all the things they don't cover: improvisation, aural skills, theory, reading, how to look after their instrument, what could happen at their first gig, and how they can make the most of their band. All of these skills are vital to an aspiring musician.
I do also teach the grades to my students, usually using the Rockschool board, although I am open to others. I have also helped many students prepare for their GCSE or A level exams, whether it be the performance aspect, composition or the written exam.
Feel free to drop me an email to ask about my teaching!
Some feedback from my students:
“Every lesson leads on perfectly from the last and I come away with something new to learn that marries in with the last task”
“The best thing about your lessons is you don’t just teach the grade books, you teach all the things they don’t necessarily cover”
“Dan is very patient, explains everything really well and has helped me improve. He also makes the lessons fun”

As well as being excellent at explaining the physical techniques of playing, his clear explanations of the music theory that underpins what we have been learning has really helped me broaden and deepen my musical knowledge too.
Dan has been mindful to shape my lessons around my ability as I progress and this is really helping me out of some ruts. He also supplies notes at the end of each session which are a useful reference point as I continue to practice in my own time.
I would definitely recommend Dan as a music tutor.
