All commented on how my pedagogy (see below) make the learning process accessible to beginners. And frankly, I am just passing on how I was taught, and how I have learnt from my teachers.
My pedagogy on jazz piano is taught to me by Shan Verma, a former student of Bebop legend Barry Harris. Barry and Shan's unique and insightful approach to teaching emphasises on how different aspects of jazz theory connect to each other. Learning how to play jazz piano in such manner, simplifies the complexity of jazz theory and allows the learner to concentrate what matters most: the creative process of playing.
I help students gain proficiency with the instrument in a systematic approach:
dexterity, technique, touch; alongside jazz musicianship, merging the "science" of jazz: theory, voicing, chord-scale relationships, with the "art" of improvisation: building interesting solo phrases, learning different stylistic approach to playing, listening and responding to other instruments in group playing.
I am devoted to helping students attain freedom for self-expression, the essence of Jazz, I would argue; whilst encouraging them to explore, just play something and have fun :)
