Personal Description:
I am a freelance harpist and teacher completing my Bachelors degree from The Royal College of Music in London.
My roots are in traditional Irish Music. I have won competitions in both regional and national levels playing the lever harp. In 2013 I achieved grade 8 Distinction with the University of West London. My achievements with the lever harp have led me to play at numerous prestigious locations including the Irish Embassy in London.
I later transitioned to the pedal harp and achieved grade 8 distinction with ABRSM as well as being a member of the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain.
I was awarded a place at The Royal College of Music in 2019 and since then have received tuition from internationally acclaimed musicians in addition to participating in projects with the RCM Symphony Orchestra.
Tutoring Experience:
I have completed modules in creative education with distinction at the RCM covering major literature on musical pedagogy.
I regularly observe masterclasses from well respected harpist in the harp community which inform me with different approaches to learning and mastering the instrument.
From January 2023 I will be working towards an ABRSM diploma in music teaching
Tutoring Approach:
My teaching style is very flexible and open minded. My background in folk music led me to learn music orally for several years before learning how to read music notation. As a child this gave me a lot of freedom of expression and was a formative period of my music life.
However I also deeply value the importance of learning how to read and understand musical notation. I support the ABRSM grade system and am happy to support students who desire to work towards exams.
I believe in the importance of a methodological and structured approach to learning which provides students with the tools they need to express themselves musically.
I am friendly and approachable and always open to tailoring my teaching approach to my students desired needs/outcomes.
