I graduated with a 1st class degree from the Royal Northern College of Music where I studied for 4 years as a student of Voice & Opera. I am a friendly person with a keen musical ear and a thorough understanding of the singing voice. I have played guitar for 15 years and play both acoustic and electric guitar.
I offer a FREE 30min consultation for us to meet and discuss your goals and for you to get an idea of how the sessions run.
1hr lessons (£30) and 30min lessons (£15) available.
A huge part of my singing teaching experience has been with students who were beginners when they arrived. I therefore have a great deal of experience helping people 'find' their voice and allowing them to experience what their singing voice is capable of!
Also, having trained at the Royal Northern College of Music where I received regular, world-class singing tuition from my vocal tutors, I am very well-equipped to teach singing up to an advanced level.
I have played the guitar for 15 years and have experience in teaching both acoustic and electric guitar.
The most important thing for any singer, I believe, is that they are able to sing confidently and comfortably in any style or genre with their own, unique singing voice. My approach to teaching is rooted in classical technique because, in my opinion, this technique allows for the greatest control of the singing voice and, from that, one can sing in the most efficient way possible whilst also allowing their unique singing voice to flourish.
For beginners, we work primarily on learning ‘open’ chords, playing riffs and strumming/picking patterns. The guitar is a very satisfying instrument to learn as you can learn it whilst playing many of your favourite songs! At an intermediate level we learn more complex chords (including bar chords) and start to look at ‘tablature’ which is a form of notation enabling you to play more complex riffs, again, from your favourite songs. We would also look at scales and stylistic techniques to enhance freestyle ‘soloing’, should you wish to develop this skill.
