Personal Description:

I am married and mother of two adult girls. I have been making music since I was a child. I am currently director of music at the local church St Andrew and St George in Stevenage. I am weekly choir trainer of the Addenbrookes hospital choir.
I have always lived in the local area and enjoy bird watching and walking. I love to paint and draw and take lots of photos for painting
when my husband and I enjoy weekends away in our caravan. I love cats and have three of them. I enjoy gardening when not painting or playing the piano for pleasure.

Tutoring Experience:

I have taught the piano for over 34 years at my home and have excellet results at Associated Board of music examinations.
I have been a secondary music school teacher for over ten years and as head of a music department worked with other music teachers both internally and through the music service.
I have taught keystage 3, 4 and 5 and Btec level 2 music over the last ten years.
I can teach theory and composition - and as I have a degree in music technology have access to music software for teaching composition.

Tutoring Approach:

For Piano and vocal teaching I will work at the piano with the child and use various paino/vocal tutor books adapted to the childs age and development.
For theory teaching I would work through the associated board theory practice books and courses. Adapting excecises and practice theory papers. This work would be carried out at a table and the piano depending on the material being taught.
For Gcse Music composition I would use the piano and music software to help the student realise their own work ( they must do the course work in school) I can only give advice and indicate where they can improve.
For score reading and analysis I would work through listening excercise and similar style questions to help the student to answer more accurately.
For music history and historical background I would use relevant gcse course books and other resources to help them learn about the relevance of history, orchestration, and composers.
