Personal Description:

I am a PGCE qualified music teacher. I provide relaxed yet engaging lessons that open up the world of music to students. I have always had a passion for music and for the last few years it has been my profession. I still play live music with my band and enjoy playing with other musicians from the area. I have been very lucky to play in many different venues across the UK and had the chance to play with a handful of different artists on the way. I am a multi instrumentalist and adopt many different styles of music. I have a passion for music production and technology too which led me to owning a small recording studio in Leicester. I eventually left this and moved to Bristol to pursue my teachers qualification to allow me to teach music in secondary schools across the UK.

Tutoring Experience:

I am a classroom music teacher with a PGCE qualification and over 20 years of music industry experience. I currently work as a music technology teacher at St Brendan’s 6th Form College. I specialise in Guitar, however, I am qualified to teach GCSE Music, Music Technology and Music production courses. I have had over 10 years experience teaching for Secondary Schools and over 5 years one-to-one tuition experience. I am slightly different to other teachers as I have had experience teaching basic classical theory for a class of 30 to jamming out a Metallica song one-to-one.

Tutoring Approach:

I have a relaxed approach to teaching. I usually start with learning songs that the tutee wants to play. I would then explore that song (and style) further by looking at theoretical aspects (Chord degrees, scales, modes, keys, improvisation & composition). This would then allow us to explore other aspects of that style, or move on to other genres to multiply their musical pallet. If students are also interested in music production I would help tutees understand how to record and produce towards said style. I firmly believe that if you know how the recording process is completed your composition productivity will triple! This is something, as a standard, I teach but will only go into more detail if the student wishes to take production sessions too.
