Personal Description:
My name is Charlie and I grew up in Wirral, Merseyside, surrounded by music from an early age. My dad is a music producer, and from the age of 10 I was learning blues and jazz piano before moving on to guitar, songwriting, and singing. I played in bands with my brother, toured playing bass guitar, and spent years travelling, hitchhiking, busking, and performing wherever I could.
Along the way I immersed myself in folk and Irish traditional music, banjo, and vocal performance, and later travelled to Senegal to study West African music, learning kora and djembe. Music has been a constant part of my daily life — lived, shared, and experienced rather than studied on paper.
Tutoring Experience:
I have experience teaching music to children in schools as well as one-to-one priva**Contact Detail Removed**ssons. Much of my background has been shaped by continuous learning, training, and real-world musical experience rather than formal academic routes. I enjoy working with students of different ages and abilities and helping them develop confidence, musicality, and a genuine connection to music.
Tutoring Approach:
My approach to teaching is rooted in how I learned myself and how music is traditionally passed on in many African cultures: through listening, feeling, and playing by ear. I do not read sheet music or tabs — instead, I focus on developing musical instinct, rhythm, groove, and expression.
For me, music is about enjoyment, community, sharing, and self-expression. I believe lessons should be inspiring and fun, while also encouraging discipline — regular practice is essential. I aim to help students truly feel the music, build confidence in their ears, and develop a lifelong relationship with playing and creating music.
