Information About Carolin - Bristol teacher
This is how 2 referees rated Carolin:
I am from Germany and have been living and working in Bristol since 2009. I first came here as an exchange student and instantly fell in love with the city and its diverse and lively music scene. Next to performing as a singer and pianist and writing my own material, I write and arrange for various Bristol acts, including a small choir. I also work as a piano accompanist. Recently I took up music production which enables me to record student's performances and provide basic playback arrangements using virtual instruments.
Languages and language teaching are another area of my interest. For my master's thesis i conducted and published research on the benefits of using music in language teaching and developing audio literacy.
I have been teaching children and adults for 6 years in both Germany and the U.K… One to one is the usual format but I also work with small groups in workshops held at Artist Studios Bristol (singing, songwriting and performance/stage presence).

In the first few lessons you will develop a basic understanding of how your voice works in order to systematically build your technical skills. The main focus, however, will be on a rather playful discovery of the numerous facets of your voice that will add up to a rich and unique sound, increasing your range, improving breathing efficiency, giving you more power and clarity and smoothing out transition points (breaks or cracks when ascending or descending in pitch). I only work with methods that are safe, based on recent research into the anatomy and functioning of the voice.
I teach all contemporary styles. What songs we work on in lessons is entirely up to you. If you are a songwriter, your original material is very welcome and we can work on accompaniments and arrangements and devote some lesson time to improvisation and music theory to enhance your songwriting skills. Demo recordings are also an option.
Discover the piano as a versatile solo instrument and/or a rich source of inspiration for songwriting, composing and improvising!
You can focus on any style/genre of your choice or play a variety of different pieces to broaden your musical horizons and experiment with different techniques and articulations. Depending on your choice of styles/genres you will learn to either read music, play by chord symbols or play by ear - or even learn all three.
If you are looking to prepare for grade exams I am probably not the right teacher as I prefer to work outside fixed syllabuses. Pieces will be selected entirely on the basis of your musical preferences and level of ability. Original material is very welcome and can be developed and recorded in lessons.
