I am a well experienced teacher, giving lessons both privately and also at Yorkshire Music School in Saltaire. I teach a vast range of abilities and age ranges. All the way from 7 year olds to 70 year olds! Teaching either at my studio (2 minutes walk from Horsforth train station), or travelling to the students house.
With beginners, I put a strong focus on playing music and songs as quickly as possible. Allowing the student to learn their favourite tunes within the first lesson. This is fantastic for capturing the enthusiasm for the instrument in the early stages. Even providing an electric guitar for the lesson if you haven't bought your own yet!
I boast 100% pass rate with Rockschool guitar exams with many students reaching Merits and Distinctions.
As a patient and attentive teacher, he caters each lesson to the individual need and aims as a player, whether that be recording yourself, songwriting, improvising or simply learning your favourite tunes!
Calvin began his musical training at the age of 12 when he began studying the guitar. Within the first year he was playing gigs around Manchester to small audiences playing his original music. Inspired to continue studying music, Calvin studied academically at GCSE, A level and eventually degree level at Leeds College of Music where he was awarded a BA (hons) 1st degree after three years of study.
As a graduate of Leeds College of Music he have been working as a sideman backing up artists and performing with an array of bands for a number of years now. This has led him to perform at events in UK venues such as Wembley Stadium for the England football team as well as international performances for clients such as Jaguar in Jordan.
5 Years resident at the Yorkshire Music school in Saltaire.
Maintaining private students for over 5 years of lessons.
I have conducted ensemble workshops and band workshops at many schools across the north.
With beginners I always put a strong focus on playing along with your favourite songs as quickly as possible.
With every first lesson I like to learn who your favourite artists are so we can play something that excites you straight away, breaking it down to be suitable for a complete beginner.
Playing along to music to develop good rhythm and have fun is a big part of my lessons, I slow down the songs we're working on at a speed comfortable to you to develop your rhythm as your learn.
