Personal Description:

Blackheath cello lessons for all levels and abilities • I'm a cellist who recently graduated with a First-Class Bachelor of Music degree from the Royal Academy of Music, where I studied with Robert Cohen and Ben Davies. Whilst there I received the Moir Carnegie Cello Prize, the Norma Simpson Lower Strings Prize, and the Sir John Barbirolli Memorial Award, and was 'Very Highly Commended' in the May Mukle/Douglas Cameron Prize. I also performed as a member of the Academy's highly regarded 'Sainsbury Soloists' string ensemble. Since graduating in 2021, career highlights have included attending the Young Artist Program at Kneisel Hall Chamber Music Festival, reaching the live quarter-final round of the Khachaturian International Competition, and becoming a substitute with Miami's New World Symphony. I'm originally from the USA and Switzerland, but I moved to the UK when I was 15 to attend Bedales School in Hampshire, and I've lived here ever since. I've just moved to London with my partner and I'm really excited to get to know potential students!

Tutoring Experience:

I have 8 years of experience giving individual lessons, and have also frequently acted as a teaching assistant (sitting in on lessons, offering additional advice and perspectives), both at Conservatoire and in secondary school, with students ranging in ability from ABRSM Grade 1 to professional. At the Royal Academy of Music, I participated in the 'Open Academy' program, which involved going into local primary schools and offering group sessions with young children on improvisation, composition and basic instrumental technique.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach is to guide students toward performances of music they enjoy playing while ensuring a smooth progression of technical and musical ability. I think teaching should be very much tailored to the individual, so I try not to go in with a rigid 'one size fits all' mindset. Learning an instrument should always be a fun and rewarding experience and I consider it my responsibility to facilitate this!
