Personal Description:

My passion in life is to foster a love of learning in all my students.

Learning an instrument is a lifelong endeavour: I continue to learn the piano, honing my skills as a pianist (and teacher!) as part of The Oxford Piano Group, run by Dr Sally Cathcart. I am active in the musical life of my community, playing the violin in a local orchestra and singing in a community choir.

I have a DipABRSM in Piano Performance and ABRSM Grade 8 Music Theory.

I am a member of the Curious Piano Teachers which support teachers in developing a strong sense of musicianship in their piano students.

Tutoring Experience:

I have worked as a private teacher since 2012, teaching full time since 2019. I now run a thriving piano studio from my home, with experience focussing on teaching the young beginner.

Sitting ABRSM and Trinity exams are optional, but I have a proven track record of success with my students who would like to enter them for their own development.

Tutoring Approach:

Making music should be at the heart of all lessons

My teaching philosophy places making music in the centre of each lesson, although how this happens changes from week to week, student to student. I seek out and nurture the spark of musicality in all of my students, believing that we all have a capacity for music. I strive to understand the whole person when teaching: playing the piano doesn't exist in a vacuum and I endeavour to suit the lesson to the development goals, musical interests and personality of the student.

I love to foster a curiosity of music and the piano to last a lifetime. By placing music at the forefront of each lesson, students can look forward to exploring music with creative tasks such as improvisation and composing, as well as listening and singing.

Support students and parents alike to help them achieve their goals with piano lessons and musicianship, I offer progressive lessons with supporting resources and open dialogue to ensure all three parties get the most value from the lessons.
