Information About Bruce - Newcastle teacher

Personal Description:

I'm Bruce, I'm a Melodeon / Diatonic Button Accordion player and multi-instrumentalist based in North-East England and have been playing traditional music for about 15 years.

I have a Master's Degree in Music and a First Class Honours Degree in Folk and Traditional Music and have been performing professsionally for the past 7 years. I've been teaching for some years and have a detailed knowledge of traditional and contemporary music repertoire from England, Central France, Brittany, Scotland, Ireland, and Scandinavia.

I currently work with a couple different ensembles and projects, notably the Euro-folk band Hearken Quartet and contemporary-traditional dance event DIY Ceilidh.

Tutoring Experience:

I've taught a variety students 1 on 1 on the melodeon for a number of years now, ranging from complete beginners to more experienced players. I've also led various workshops, teaching traditional and contemporary folk tunes from all overto a range of different instruments, with both tunes for those in a dance context, but also just for listening and playing.

Tutoring Approach:

When it comes to teaching, the main focus is always the aims and goals of the student. Students will be able to choose the types of repertoire they'd like to learn, with each new piece of repertoire introducing new techniques and ideas to develop their playing.
