Personal Description:

Hi! My name is Ben , I have just graduated from Trinity Laban Conservatoire, with a Ba(Hons) degree in Jazz Performance, specialising on the saxophones, and piano. I also teach classical saxophone and piano too. I now work as a performing jazz saxophonist and session musician, playing in jazz venues all across the UK and recording with various bands and artists.

Tutoring Experience:

I have taught music in a wide range of different settings, to a diverse range of students of
different ages and ability levels. I started teaching woodwind, piano and percussion privately
to younger students when I was in secondary school. I found that I thoroughly enjoyed being
able to pass on my musical knowledge, and it was rewarding to see students develop an
interest in music. I continued to teach privately throughout sixth form and university, and also
taught primary school children in my local area. While I developed my own knowledge of
Jazz Saxophone at Trinity Laban Conservatoire, I led jazz workshops for primary school
children in London. I also helped to teach and run workshops for adults at a Jazz Summer
School in France every year, which I have continued to do every summer. I now teach piano,
woodwind and percussion to students of all ages through the Bespoke Music Tuition Agency
in North London.

I am also a professional gigging musician, having toured internationally with a band called
PYJÆN, as well as numerous other London based jazz musicians in a number of different
venues such as Ronnie Scotts, 606 Club, Olivers Jazz Club, Pizza Express Jazz Club Soho,
Jazz Cafe, and many other bars and jazz clubs. Our recently released EP, “Sage Secrets”,
reached one million streams on Spotify in just a few months. I believe this experience gives
me a unique insight into teaching, as I understand how music is applied in a professional
capacity. I am also able to provide my students with insight into careers, and have strong
organisational skills developed from years of booking gigs, organising rehearsals and liaising
with other industry professionals.

Tutoring Approach:

I aim to:
• Foster a passion for music in all students
• Enable students to have the discipline to practice and to aim towards continuous improvement
• Educate students in a wide range of musical genres and styles, including improvisation in jazz and
popular music
• Guide students through the ABRSM practical and theory exams, both in Jazz and Classical
• Introduce the students to a variety of different listening repertoire
• Develop students listening and musical ear by learning songs with and without notation, aural tests and
singing
• Teach all students basic piano and drum skills to further their rhythmic and harmonic abilities
