Information About Benedict - Moreton-in-marsh teacher
This is how 2 referees rated Benedict:
Since graduating from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in 2007 and following a year at the National Opera Studio, I continue to enjoy a hugely successful career as an international opera singer, and have performed major roles at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden, English National Opera, Opera North, Scottish Opera and extensively abroad in France, Spain, Italy and the United States and Canada. “Without the score - which is very precise and complicated - and discreetly sonorous - both visually and acoustically - Benedict is an excellent actor. He easily convinces first time viewers. This piece is monstrously difficult, requiring certainly acting ability but also extraordinary vocal techniques … called back on stage for a bow, the English baritone was much applauded"
Olyrix, August 2017
“Benedict emphatically holds the stage as Ulysses, embodying his suffering and flawed nobility in a performance of grandeur and strength.”
The Stage, October 2016
“The singing as always at the ENO was first rate… Benedict as Billy Budd possesses a beautiful voice… he was utterly compelling, his acting superb, his phrasing touching and he stole our hearts as the poor stammering scapegoat for a twisted homosexual obsession.”
Melina Hughes, Spear’s WMS, June 2012
“But the revelation of the set is Benedict ’s searingly powerful account of Songs and Proverbs of William Blake. This late cycle, dedicated to Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau, is dark and spare in tone without any of Britten’s customary twinkle. But when sung with the focused intensity that ’s rich baritone brings to it, its impact is profoundly haunting.”
Rupert Christiansen, Daily Telegraph, November 2011
I have been teaching privately for over 5 years. Since moving back to Gloucestershire where I grew up, an appetite for teaching and developing new talent has grown and I have built a small body of private students which I now would like to expand.
As my experience suggests, my expertise is in classical voice production and this forms the basis of the technique I teach. However this framework is applicable to a wide variety of styles, so whether your interest is in operatic repertoire, jazz or heavy metal music, the principles of safe and sustainable vocal production are the same. The techniques and exercises I offer are useful and relevant to all styles of music and from there can naturally be adapted to different styles however the student wishes me to guide them.
Intrinsically, my lessons are guided by the student and their voice; I will guide them based on what I hear, and the aspirations they have for their singing, and problems they wish to overcome. For some this means preparing particular pieces, for others this will be taking examinations or even just to enjoy their singing more.
