Personal Description:

My name is Ben and I run The West Yorkshire Piano Studio in Leeds.
I bring my experience from more than 20 years teaching piano to fun, family friendly lessons.
I am a professional pianist and continue to work throughout the UK. performing with many ensembles and as a solo pianist.
I teach piano to anyone who wants to learn and am happy to work in many different styles such as Jazz, Classical, Pop, Folk, Songwriter and Contemporary piano. We'll find some music you love!
I am based in Cross Gates, Leeds and teach at my piano studio or travel to students homes in the local area.

Tutoring Experience:

I have been teaching piano for 20 years and up until September 2009 I led The Sage Gateshead's Jazz Programme and tutored on the prestigious Weekend School and Young Musicians Programmes.
I teach all ages and abilities. Many students go through ABRSM graded exams while some just want to play for fun. I am happy either way! I have helped GCSE, A-Level and Undergraduate students with their performing, theory and composition skills and have a broad knowledge of the music industry and how to tackle it which I enjoy sharing.

Tutoring Approach:

I can provide 1 to 1 piano tuition in a variety of styles including jazz, popular, classical music, folk and contemporary. I set high standards for myself and my students and to date have a 100% pass rate for ABRSM, Trinity and Rock School graded exams.

I have a lot of experience of running workshops for small groups of musicians which focus on Jazz and Improvisation methods. This is a great and fun way to learn and also to meet other like minded people and I am happy to talk to you about your groups needs.

Lessons in my own home or (if time allows) I can travel to the students chosen location. They will normally be either 30mins or 1 hour duration.

I am experienced at teaching all ages and abilities and particularly welcome complete beginners, young or not so young! In my sessions I always aim to provide the student with an exciting learning experience achieving a good balance between structured tuition and enjoyment of the instrument and the music.

All lessons are tailor made for each students individual needs. Please get in touch with any questions about any aspect of learning to play the piano and I will do my best to help and to arrange a programme that will suit you.
