Personal Description:

I've been a freelance double & electric bass player & teacher since c.2000. I was classically trained on double bass, before switching my main focus to jazz whilst I was at university. Since graduating with an MA in Music performance in 2002, I have taught privately and in schools, colleges & universities in London and the south of England, whilst also performing with a wide range of bands & musicians, in styles ranging from jazz & blues to classical & rock.

Tutoring Experience:

University Of Southampton (bass guitar & jazz double bass) 2001 - present
Barton Peveril College (bass guitar & jazz double bass) 2013 - present
Gregg School 2008 - present
Cantell School 2011 - 2014
Chichester College 2009 - 2010
Morley College London 2005 - 2006
Tribe Community Arts 2002 - 2003
And a large number of private students of all ages & abilities in and around London & Southampton since 2000.

Tutoring Approach:

I tailor lessons to each student on an individual basis. With over 15 years experience, I have a wealth of resources to draw on, and I'm constantly creating more, so I can focus on helping each student achieve what they want to achieve. Whether you just want to learn some tunes to jam with some friends, or want to study to professional level, I plan lessons to suit your needs and help you progress at your pace. Elements of general musicianship that are important to every musician (reading, theory, ear training etc.) are introduced as and when necessary and/or required, never for their own sake or because I feel it ought to be done, and in a way that is relevant and manageable.
