Information About Anya - Bristol teacher

Personal Description:

I have been playing violin for 13 years and started with the Suzuki method from a very young age, playing in groups weekly while also learning music theory and musicianship. I played at Centre for Young Musicians for 5 years before moving to the Junior department of Trinity Laban Conservatoire, where I played in orchestras and chamber groups every week. I completed my ATCL diploma in June 2021 and I am now studying Biochemistry at Bristol University but hope to keep up with music by private tutoring.

Tutoring Experience:

I have experience teaching and supporting younger students starting out with the Suzuki method, including playing violin and studying music theory. As I have learnt with both the Suzuki method and also TCL examinations (Grade 7, 8, ATCL diploma) I can support students with both methods. I have also played in various chamber music groups with violin and viola, so I can support students wishing to learn both.

Tutoring Approach:

Having grown up with the Suzuki method I do believe it is an effective means of learning to play an instrument - music is intrinsically auditory and so playing 'off by heart' is the main goal for every piece we learn, with less emphasis on reading music until the technical groundwork has been laid. The kinaesthetic and auditory aspects of violin playing is the main focus, with lots of games and interactive activities throughout the lesson and also for practice during the week. It is also important that the parent is engaged, if possible, as this will help the learning process.
