Personal Description:
Anthony is a retired Information Technologist who has been a musician since boyhood, and has been engaged in teaching throughout his career. He continues to a very active musician, playing the bassoon, the piano and the organ, and composes/arranges music, primarily for voice, and he is also engaged in charity work. He finds 'giving back' musical knowledge and experience to young people (and to older people too) a very satisfactory use of his time.
Tutoring Experience:
Anthony taught After School Club at a local primary school in Latin, and later taught music theory at a local preparatory school. Since 2010 he has been teaching ABRSM Grade 5 Music Theory (and a few at Grade 3) to young people mostly 1-1, in the homes of students with a 100% success rate. His young-people students have ranged from 7-year-olds to 18-year-olds, and he has also given less formal tuition to adults.
Tutoring Approach:
Anthony uses a course book to provide a systematic framework to learning Music Theory, while passing on many tips and methods that give deeper understanding of the detailed musical topics and language used. When the range of topics has been substantially covered using the course-book, he uses past-ABRSM papers to build skill and confidence in approaching the ABRSM requirement to demonstrate broad understanding in passing the exam.
