Personal Description:

I graduated from Cardiff University with a first-class Music degree in 2015 and have also completed a one-year PGCE course at Cardiff Metropolitan University. I will qualify as a secondary school Music teacher in June 2018. I regularly sing as a soprano with various ensembles such as BBC National Chorus of Wales and I recently completed a year's choral scholarship at St Martin's Church in Roath. During my time as a student I was awarded the David Lloyd Vocal Scholarship and the Geraint Evans Prize for my vocal performances. As a flautist I have performed with Bucks County Youth Orchestra and hold Grade 8 ABRSM. Now based in Cardiff, I am available over the summer period (18th June onwards) to provide lessons in voice, flute, and music theory.

Tutoring Experience:

I have provided tuition for musicians within my church community at Cardiff Vineyard Church and have also taken on leadership positions within school choirs including Cardiff Metropolitan Cathedral Choir and Llandaff Cathedral School Chamber Choir. I have been registered as a tutor for almost a year and, though still fairly new to private tutoring, I believe that the skills I have honed as a Music graduate and as an active performer will allow me continue to provide engaging and fulfilling music lessons to pupils of ages and levels.

Tutoring Approach:

I seek to build a positive and professional relationship with each pupil, understanding their individual needs and expectations. Whilst I cover all aspects of musical technique and exam preparation, I encourage pupils (particularly young musicians) to love their instrument first and foremost, be it voice or flute; it is important to develop musicianship and creativity rather than work through each grade as quickly as possible. I would also love to inspire those who want to pursue music as a hobby.

I am an organised, enthusiastic and friendly tutor and would love to hear from you.
