Personal Description:
Hello! My name's Anna and I am an experienced piano, cello, singing and music theory teacher. I started my musical training as an RSCM chorister and later studied at St Mary's Music School in Edinburgh. I hold a BA in Education and Music from the University of Cambridge, where I was a choral scholar, and have several years' experience working with children in and out of the classroom.
I now work teach piano, cello, singing and theory and freelance as a professional singer. I've worked with some of the country's best choirs, including the Choir of St Martin-in-the-Fields and the National Youth Choir of Scotland.
Tutoring Experience:
My teaching experience ranges from pre- and primary school beginners to university students. I particularly enjoy working with beginner pupils and have extensive experience working with primary school children, including as a classroom teacher. I have led music workshops for Ark Schools, Peterborough Music Service and St Mary's Music School outreach, and have directed choirs and school groups for several years.
Tutoring Approach:
Whilst I tend to follow the John Thompson curriculum with younger students and ABRSM with those wishing to take exams, I believe that music should be studied for pleasure as well as intellectual gain - and that the main aim of learning an instrument is to enjoy yourself! I tailor my approach to each individual pupil's needs and enjoy finding a pedagogical approach that works for them.
I am happy to travel to pupils' homes to teach and prefer to work face-to-face. I am DBS-checked, First Aid trained, and receive weekly lateral flow tests as part of my work in schools.
I can offer trial lessons to see if my teaching is right for you - please don't hesitate to contact me if you have any questions.
