Personal Description:

*OFFICIALLY TEACHING ONLINE MUSIC LESSONS*

My name is Anna and I am a piano and French horn teacher, based in West Didsbury. I studied music performance at the Royal Northern College of Music, and graduated in 2017 with a Bachelor of Music (Honours) classification 2:1. I have since studied a Masters in Counselling and Psychotherapy at Keele Univerity. I believe my training in counselling and psychotherapy enhances my abilities at teaching, as I am very tuned in to the needs' of the individual. Beginning a musical instrument can be a very exciting experience for a child (or even an adult!) I believe it is of crucial importance that the relationship between the pupil and teacher is strong. I will work to however you learn best, and therefore my teaching is very much tailored to the individual. I believe in gentle encouragement and first and foremost, building on the love of music that brought you to want to learn the instrument in the first place.

Tutoring Experience:

My experience of teaching the French horn and piano has been enhanced by the Horn classes I worked in from a young age. During this time, I found it so encouraging to witness the curiosity of children trying out the French horn for the first time. Whether or not you plan to become a professional musician or just want the challenge and interest of a musical hobby, I would encourage all parents to allow their children an opportunity to learn a musical instrument. Sadly, musical provision in schools is now heavily unprioritized, with music departments closing in many state schools. Music can be an amazingly therapeutic outlet for many children and is an essential part of culture and human creativity. In my opinion, no child should have to be denied the chance to participate in music.
I greatly value every opportunity I have to work at teaching music to children.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to teaching music has been enhanced through my training in psychotherapy. I aim for my students to discover their own sense of self, which I believe is the best way to encourage future motivation and learning. From my background in mental health training and counselling, I also teach students how to address and conquer performance anxiety, physical and mental well-being, and freedom of self-expression. I see every student as an individual, and our work together will focus on choosing goals which will motivate you to become the best musician of your ability. I will be walking alongside you in your journey and will focus on what you want to get out of lessons. I aim for the experience to be both fun and enjoyable; education which does not allow a child to be fully engaged in their own leaning will never achieve the goals of success and may even be harmful in the long-term.
Music lessons will take place from my home in West Didsbury, and will normally be 30 minutes duration.
