Personal Description:

Hi, I am a fun loving teacher who has worked with Hampshire Music Services and Southampton Music Services over the past 21 years .

If you don't fancy exams I have a wide library of music that I can recommend so that you can progress without any pressure. The library ranges from the latest CD pop pieces to Classical Ensembles.

I also run MUSIC FUN FACTORY and have several "Elastic Bands" within this group -- so called because I will keep on stretching you. One of the groups is for beginners ( Adults and Children) where you can hire instruments for the session and can overtime learn to play film themes etc in a relaxed atmosphere learning basic notes to begin with. I also cater for learners up to Grade 8 + in different groups I run. It is £4 per session and £4 to hire. I also run a Grade 4 plus group and a Ukulele group.

Tutoring Experience:

I have 27 years experience teaching.

I started teaching in Devon 35 years ago in KEVICS, Totnes and Abbey School , Torquay… oh and at home privately, much to my Parents annoyance. In 1994 I got married and moved up to Hampshire where I joined Hampshire Music Services and as well as working at Thornden School I did much award teaching. I have worked in many schools in the area and have also worked for Southampton Music Service.

I have recently taken my Jazz Flute Exam Grade 8 and am in a sax group and a Jazz Improvising group… I am well qualified to teach Jazz Saxophone, Clarinet or Flute. I can also teach Classical to an Advanced standard because I have a wide range of orchestral experience varying from my own Flute Quintet to Solo Concertos with backing orchestra.

Having entered 1000s of pupils in the past 30 years I have only had 2 failures with the last five Grade 8 candidates before COVID , obtaining distinctions.

During lockdown I had to teach via the internet platforms eg zoom , Facetime etc I was very successful with this and entered 10 pupils for exams all of whom passed - 2 of which were Grade 8 flautists one of which passed with Distinction the other a Merit.

I also conduct Music Fun Factory, Hedge End iwhich encourages music playing for all ages in the Community ( Complete Beginner to Advanced).

Tutoring Approach:

Learning must never be a chore. It must always be approached in a methodical way to help progression but at that same time it must be FUN.
I tailor the lessons to suit the candidate because everyone learns in different ways and likes different types of music.

I can possibly travel for £18 per half hour to the Chandlers Ford area and I have a studio in Hedge End.
