Information About Andrew - Hackney teacher

Personal Description:

BBC soloist and orchestral player; experience playing as soloist in Barbican Concert Hall, Queen Elizabeth Hall, to jazz venues including Ronnie Scotts, London. I have played with groups in most genres of music and always seeking to play with an authentic sound - Classical (Baroque, Classical, Romantic to hard edge contemporary music scores), 20s, 30s, 40s, 50s, Soul/Funk, Blues, Bebop. All genres have a particular sound that can be captured in the saxophone - one of the most versatile instruments.

Tutoring Experience:

I have been teaching for 20 years. I have coached undergraduate and post graduate students in Trinity Music College, London, the National Youth Wind Orchestra as well as teaching privately to students from complete beginner to Advanced Diploma level. Everyone is an individual and so lessons are customized to suit the aspirations of my students.

Tutoring Approach:

For beginners: to begin with, there is pretty much a set line of approach in order to establish a level of playing where my student is confident in producing a rich, versatile sound across the range of the saxophone. Then, it's about how my student wants to progress - whether jazz and improvisation or classical or both - all is possible! I also regularly record my students to give them a chance to hear themselves in a professional recording.

I have students who come to me to hone their skills. It is always about what my student is looking for. I provide a way to help them improve. It may be increasing their perception/awareness of their technique, sound, idiom of music they are playing in/aspire towards.

I am available for more advanced players looking for professional advice and guidance in exploring advanced repertoire and/or recording techniques etc. Also, guidance in preparation for concerts - whether chamber or solo concerto performance.
