Personal Description:

*NOW OFFERING TUITION ONLINE!!*
Hi! My name is Andy, and I am a professional, up and coming musician working along the south of the UK. Specialising in orchestral conducting, I graduated from the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama in the summer of 2018 studying under David Jones with additional tutoring from Peter Stark. I currently conduct a number of orchestras along the South of England and Wales and regularly work with a range of musicians from Primary Schools through to adult ensembles.

Alongside my conducting I am also a trumpeter and pianist. I was awarded my ABRSM Trumpet Performance Licentiate in 2016 and have been playing both trumpet and piano for nearly 20 years.

I have experience working in both classical orchestras as well as in smaller jazz outfits and am passionate at passing on my enjoyment of all things music!

Tutoring Experience:

I have been tutoring musicians for the past 7 years, most recently by providing private instrumental lessons. I have experience working with Primary School students through to adults.

I currently work as a brass peripatetic teacher at a number of schools across Surrey.

Alongside my private teaching I work at the Royal Welsh Conservatoire tutoring students from 8-18 as part of their 'Juniors’ programme, teaching conducting and working with small chamber ensembles in addition to conducting their symphony orchestra.

I've been teaching online now for nearly a year and have extensive experienced teaching with Zoom & Microsoft Teams. Using a range of apps, games other materials my lessons are fun and engaging - but then again, I would say that!

Tutoring Approach:

I am a firm believer that one size certainly does not fit all. Though I specialise in Classical playing, I like to work with my students to develop their overall musicianship through avenues and genres that interest them. I have found that for the majority of my students exams help them to focus by providing a defined goal, although this approach works best when taught alongside their own interests within music.

Overall I aim to cultivate a learning environment that develops not only great instrumentalists, but well rounded musicians.
