Personal Description:

I am a professional drummer and percussionist based in London with over 16 years of experience in the music industry.

Throughout my career, I have eagerly sought out new challenges and continued to challenge myself as a musician and artist. I have had the good fortune of playing and recording with many talented artists from different genres, from orchestral musicians to indie bands, art-rock, folk and electro.

I have recorded in world-class studios (Abbey Road, Air, 123 Studios, Rockfield); built DIY studios and self-produced and released records.

I am always looking to improve myself by pushing my musical knowledge and boundaries ever-further. This is evident in the projects that I have had the privilege of working on.

Some highlights include touring as the opening act for The Psychedelic Furs, Supporting Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds & Patti Smith at All Points East Festival, supporting the Mercury-nominated Nadine Shah. Playing, touring and recording with legendary proto-punk icon Richard ‘kid’ Strange. Recording an album with world-renowned producer John Leckie (Radiohead, Muse, Stone Roses). Singing backing vocals on The Divine Comedy’s album ‘Foreverland’. Working on art, music and performance pieces with actor and musician Orlando Seale, touring with the Australian Folk-Rock band The Wishing Well around Europe for 3-months.

I have been mentored and studied under some of the leading musicians and creatives working today;

Drums - Ian Thomas (Eric Clapton, Luther Vandross, Mike Oldfield, Tom Jones, Mark Knopfler, Mick Jagger, BB King)

Drums - Chuck Sabo (Elton John, Brian Eno, Tom Jones, Natalie Imbruglia)

Drums - Mark Roberts (D: Ream)

Percussion - Fergus Gerrand (Duran Duran, Robert Plant, Whitesnake, Madonna, Sting, Katie Melua)

Richard Strange (The Doctors of Madness)

Tutoring Experience:

I am an experienced and enthusiastic drum kit and percussion tutor, with over 7-years of experience teaching students of all ages and abilities.

Since gaining my BA in Creative Musicianship, I have not only pursued a career as an artist in the music business. I have also devoted myself to teaching, sharing my passion for music with my students and helping them to achieve merit or distinction in grades through both the Trinity and Rockschool syllabuses.

I am experienced in leading both one-to-one and group classes and con1nue to work privately and in schools. Since the pandemic, my teaching has inevitably shifted online, and I continue to find crea1ve and playful ways to engage my pupils.

I can swiftly assess each pupil's learning abilities, delivering engaging and inspiring lessons specifically tailored to their needs.

I believe that music is for everyone. It continues to be a great privilege to teach, and It brings me great pleasure to witness the joy and many benefits students have gained from working together; greater confidence and a sense of agency, improved coordina1on, listening, collabora1on, and discipline. Perhaps most important of all the power and pleasure of being part of the collec1ve and making music shared process.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach varies depending on the student’s needs and learning style. However, my teaching philosophy is based on encouraging students to think for themselves, using real-world examples wherever possible.

Depending on the student's goals, ability and understanding I usually start from a base that utilises their personal musical interests and moves gradually towards more complex areas which include technique, independence and creativity as their confidence builds.

I use questions and examples to check understanding and progression continually. I don’t lecture to students or ask them to memorise things.

I believe passionately in the huge value of tutoring to students and take great satisfaction in seeing my students achieve their full potential.
