I recently graduated from The Royal Academy of Music with a 1st class Masters having completed four years at the Royal Northern College of Music and the University of Manchester, graduating with a 1st from both institutions. I enjoy a busy professional career as an oboist in both normal repertoire and on historical instruments. I enjoy teaching all ages and abilities and have pursued the oboe to postgraduate level.
As a pianist I achieved my Advanced Certificate in 2011 and performed several solo recitals before making oboe my priority. I still accompany regularly and was involved in a production of Oliver! as the band leader and pianist.
I have had 5 years of teaching experience and currently teach at the Centre for Young Musicians in London. I was part of the team on the Young Oboe Mornings at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester, helping train young oboists in the North West. I play in educational projects and concerts with Moriarty Winds and am involved in the LPO education department helping on some of their projects.
I have an imaginative approach to teaching and want to build on what the students already enjoy. I would expect a commitment to practice between lessons but know that this amount varies at different times of the year with school/work priorities. I like building up a solid technique so as to secure a good foundation. but feel it is important to constantly work on musicality and expression at the same time.
For beginners or less experience players I recommend a 30 minute lesson and for more advanced players. 45-60 minutes.
I have entered pupils for ABRSM exams but am happy to enter for Trinity Guildhall exams also. I will teach oboe up to diploma standard and piano up to Grade 5.
I always encourage people to get involved in ensembles and orchestras as soon as they can as this does so much to help musicianship, technique, sight reading and playing with others.
