Personal Description:
I am an experienced teacher of violin and viola from beginner to advanced standard, including diploma. I teach children of all ages and adults and would consider group teaching if required. I have a private practice, teaching at home in a spacious and well-equipped music room.
I continue to be a keen player with orchestras and ensembles in the area.
I am an active member of the European String Teachers' Association.
Tutoring Experience:
I have been a peripatetic teacher in Hampshire, Suffolk and have worked for Norfolk Music Service for over 20 years, teaching in both the primary and secondary sector. During my time as a teacher in schools, I have had additional experiences as well as everyday teaching:
Running a Saturday morning music school.
Coaching youth orchestras and chamber ensembles.
Training and conducting a string orchestras.
Organizing and directing workshops.
Preparing pupils for assemblies, concerts, music festivals and exams.
Several of my pupils have secured places at leading music colleges over the years.
Tutoring Approach:
I have an extremely flexible approach to teaching, depending on the wishes of the individual. Pupils are motivated in different ways; some like to have a goal such as working for an exam and others like to play music of their own choice for pleasure. Many adults wish to pick up the instrument again after a long break. I try to make lessons fun, especially for younger children and strive to create an effective, organised and stimulating learning environment to motivate all of my pupils.
I am particularly keen on good technique and playing in a relaxed manner. I have helped many pupils to overcome the aches and pains which can easily occur when tension is present.
I enter pupils for both ABRSM and Trinity College of Music exams when required.
