Personal Description:
BA, PGCE with Qualified Teacher Status, Masters Education in Arts Culture in Education. I studied at The Liverpool University and The Cambridge University. I am a full-time musician and music teacher. Originally classically trained I later turned my hand to folk music have played in a variety of Bluegrass, Klezmer, Irish, Irish Rock and Folk Bands. I have also recorded on a number of pop and Heavy Metal albums. I continue to play classical violin in chamber ensembles and orchestras.
Tutoring Experience:
I have 18 years teaching experience, teaching individuals, small groups and whole class teaching. Recently I have taken up teaching online. I have taught across the age range 3-70 and am equally comfortable teaching adult learners, whether beginner or returning students. My experience as a Secondary Music (including Head of Music) and Primary School Music teacher (4 years) has given me a wealth of experience teaching children of all ages and a great insight into different learning styles. I have a fully inclusive ethos and am happy to work with pupils with additional or learning needs. I also have an in depth understanding of academic music curriculum syllabi, which is useful when teaching exam age students.
My students have 100% exam rate success for ABRSM exams.
I currently teach across the Rutland Learning Trust and for Independent Music Solutions, I have also held contracts with Northamptonshire Music and Performing Arts Trust and with a number of schools in Liverpool.
Tutoring Approach:
Currently teaching online, I will continue to offer this as an option post- Covid 19 restrictions. My approach to violin studies is to develop a strong violin technique and foster a love of music, ANY music. I encourage individuality. I am a happy, approachable, person who believes that music making should be fun. I treat people as individuals and cater the lessons appropriately, for example can teach music theory and aural skills alongside violin repertoire if that is required. I like to develop music reading skills, but can teach aurally if that method is preferred.
